Subtle ear defenders

Does anyone have any recommendations for ear defenders that are more subtle than the standard headphones type?

DS has had since starting school as has sensory issues, but is approaching secondary and sometimes feels conscious of standing out. Need something that will do the job though!

Dh has a pair of these: https://www.flareaudio.com/products/calmer
They're really small and you can barely see them in. They don't block everything but they filter out the background and high pitched sounds that he can struggle with.

Calmer®

An earplug alternative to reduce stress and calm your everyday sound. Soothe sound sensitivities and noise related stress. Perfect for sensitive hearing, autism, hyperacusis, misophonia and other sensory processing conditions.

I’ve seen these and wondered if they work!

What about in ear noise cancelling headphones/earbuds such as Loop or Bose?

We tried the calm flare ones and found them pretty useless. Didn't notice any difference at all. L

Senner ones were much better. My y5 child uses them at school and I gave them a test ride on the tube and found they really helped a lot.

I second that the Flare are useless. And my child was paranoid to wear them because they fell out twice while she was sitting at her desk.

That said, Loop Earplugs are a GAMECHANGER!!!

I cannot begin to tell you what a difference they’ve made!

In class, my child uses the Engage Plus (the plus is an extra cushion that reduces the noise even more). She uses the plus bit when they do group projects and it gets extra noisy. The engage don’t have as much “feedback” - when you hear your voice or yourself chew louder when you have earplugs in.

we bought the experience about 3 weeks ago and she’s used them on a school outing to make everything go a bit quieter. We also got the “quiet” which are basically like eat defenders that go into your ear. She hasn’t used them but I have… on the train. And their bliss.

not cheap, and I did order knockoffs from AliExpress of the “quiet” earplugs. They weren’t as good of a fit, but they were £3, so pretty good for the price

Ear defenders, they’re not there. My autocorrect is going nuts on me, sorry

Nekoness · 12/06/2023 19:29

They’re bliss. Not their bliss. Not there bliss.

why autocorrect, why must you vex me so
