Carers Allowance Question

Hi

I'm working and earning above the threshold for receiving carers allowance (my son is autistic and receives medium rate DLA), but I applied with a comment to state I'd quit work if my application was approved, and put a future effective date of 1st July 2023.

I received a letter saying this was rejected as I'm earning above the earning threshold, even though I'm applying for a future date and plan to quit work.

Does that mean in reality you can't even apply for it unless you're now below the earning limit does anybody know please?

You can’t apply in advance like that.

Ok thanks, didn't realise that as it asks for the effective date of the claim so what's the point in that if you can't apply in advance?

The carer’s allowance unit ask the date you want the claim to start from because claimants may want to claim for a period of time prior to them completing the carer’s allowance form, therefore they need to know when to assess the claim from.
