Adhd and behaviour stages

Child (13) was put on stage 2 of behaviour policies in June last year after an incident of physical aggression following provocation and a bit of a meltdown. Stage 3 means risk of pex. Went on report with targets which were met and as far as we knew that was the end of it. Behaviour Policy says review of stage after 6 weeks and if subsequent reviews needed they would take place after 3/6 weeks. No further targets or reviews happened post June so we assumed it was all completed satisfactorily and back to business as usual. Subsequent adhd diagnosis in Oct and now working with Senco to develop Sen support. Now been told the child is being taken off stage 2 in March - we weren’t aware they were still on the stage - 7 months later! Comms from school are generally terrible but I’m so upset about this as I never even knew this was hanging over them all this time. Am I overreacting?

Does the behaviour policy state how the reviews will be held (i.e. will parents always be notified or can it be an internal affair) and outcome of the reviews will be communicated? Did you not ask whether DS had removed from stage 2?

Have you applied for an EHCNA.

No it just says reviews take place after 3 and 6 weeks and further 6 weeks if necessary. It doesn’t say anything about the format of those reviews although weirdly for 6th form it mentions letters being shared with parents. No I didn’t seek explicit confirmation as he was taken off report (which was for the 6 weeks) and we then went into the sen system. I’m starting to think a EHCNA would be a good idea. The school is just so crap with communication. Surely this is the kind of thing parents should be told about. It says on stage 2 there are targets and support - we weren’t aware of any of these things

In that case the reviews could have been internal. You say no targets or support but also say goes in to the SEN system. DS should be receives SEN support and have targets as part of the SEN system.

I’ve never been made aware of targets. I was given a woolly answer when I asked if he was on the sen register. I still don’t know if he is or not. The only support is stuff I’ve pushed for. I pushed for senco involvement and it was reluctantly provided. I’m pretty sure we were told if he completed the report system successfully then he’d be taken off the stage.
