Hi everyone.
DS has had some tests done at secondary which were CTOPP2 and WRAML2. Apparently, one of these assesses memory and the other assesses phonological processing. A score under 84 indicates an additional need and his scores were 81 and 73. I initially contacted the SENDCO as he takes a long time to answer questions and doesn't seem to be keeping up in class although he doesn't struggle with the work. He's just not getting enough time to complete it. I suspected he has inattentive ADHD as he has a lot of traits and every school report he's had has said he struggles to maintain focus and needs regularly prompting to do his work.
However, now it seems like they think he could also be dyslexic due to his assessment results. I have thought this before when he was a lot younger and struggled with reading and writing but then he caught up and was fine. He then moved up to bigger chapter books and struggled again. He said the lines moved and wiggled when he was reading which I know is a sign of dyslexia but also visual stress/irlen's syndrome. He has glasses and uses coloured overlays and reading rulers which helps but not enough. He doesn't enjoy reading as he said he has to focus so hard on the words that he can't imagine the story and get into it so he listens to audiobooks mostly. Nonfiction books he can read fine as he doesn't need to imagine anything. He had extra time in his sats and got greater depth for SPaG and reading. He was in set 2 and then the school assessed his reading at secondary and moved him up to top set. He's been predicted 7/8/9 for GCSE. I just don't understand how he could be dyslexic and be good at English. Is it possible? Could it be something else?
He's struggled on and off with his maths too but he wasn't far off greater depth in maths for his sats. He struggles with the time and mental maths. He still counts on his fingers sometimes.
Any other advice or suggestions for him are absolutely welcome too. Anything else I can ask for him to be screened for?
Thanks!
