Is this speech delay?

My son is 2 and a half. He has around 200 words, can put together 3 to 4 word sentences, follows instructions, can identify animals, do the noises to match them without prompting, can do alphabet, colours, songs, follow nursery rhyme dances by health visitor says he is speech delayed, then hears him speak and says "hes doing really well with his speech"
I dont get it.

Does he use language to communicate? To get his needs across, or to draw your attention to something?

How is he with communication from what you have written he can list/name things but can he ask for things he wants/needs. My son can count to 100 and recite whole stories but does not reply when I say hello or ask him a question. It's a more complex language issue rather than speech delay for him.

Yes he asks me to open things, carry toys down stairs, asks me to sit and play

speech delay? i dont know but what i know for sure is that i make myself worry sick

It doesn't sound like speech delay to me, my daughter only said about 10 recognisable words at that age and went to speech and language support. She would point and not use words unless prompted so your son sounds like he is doing ok.

Your child sounds like a dream my son can only say single words and the HV aren't concerned at all and he's just turned 2 (he's behind on his speech for sure but your child is defo not speech delayed- what a way to worry a parent unnecessarily!)

He is doing amazing and sounds like you're doing a great job, from previous posts seems like he is engaging in social language too so I wouldn't worry x
