Autism Assessments

School have suggested that they will refer DD for an assessment for autism. Maybe a silly question but does it assess for things like dyspraxia, ADHD etc. that can be interlinked or just a yes/no for autism itself?

It depends on the area and what type of referral it is.

In some areas the referrals are specifically for ASD and nothing else will be diagnosed on that pathway.p, but they may refer onwards or ask the GP to if they suspect something else.

In other areas the referral is a more general one where the child’s development as a whole is considered before deciding what specific diagnostic pathway(s) need to be followed.

And in some areas both types of referral are possible, so it depends on the referral.
