Our 10 year old son has ADHD, and we are looking for the right school for him a patient school with a good senco department he has a EHCP so we can choose. Should we uproot and move to an area that has several great schools for fresh start when he goes to secondary school or stay in the area he knows and go to available secondary’s schools which are good but I worry the area they are in is not the safest especially as our son attracts trouble where ever he goes? Move for fresh start in safer area but not familiar to him or stay but worry about the commute every day?

Be aware if you move LA the new LA will review DS’s EHCP and potentially reassess, amend or even cease to maintain.

You mention the commute, have you investigated transport?

So if I move from hackney to Harringay they will re-assess EHCP because it’s a new borough?

Transport very good

If DS has transport provided why are you worried about the commute?

sorry I was not very clear, I worry about my son commuting on his own when he’s old enough through east London as he does not read situations well, down realise who to avoid on then street and seems to attacks trouble as his behaviour makes him stand out.

my question was in anyone’s experience parenting a child with sen needs specifically ADHD and Dyslexia is it best to find the best school in your area as they know the area and might go with peers from primary school or move to an area with / better option of school for your child needs like good senco dept but means uprooting them to new area, out of routine but fresh start?

Have you looked at transport that the LA provide e.g. taxi, mini bus? DS wouldn’t have to commute on his own.

My ADHD child goes to a good comp near home. The local social network helps her. The teachers genuinely help her. She feels safe
