Hi, my son who is dyslexic scored 77 in the HAST spelling test. Does anyone have a chart to show how far below average that is. Cant seem to find it online

It depends on DS’s age. There is a chart here.

100 is the average. I couldn't see the score bands in the manual but normally 77 would normally be considered to be 'below average' and would suggest a spelling difficulty with intervention recommended.

Commonly used scores bands are

90-110 'mid-average'
85-85 'low-average'
70-84 'below-average'
69 or less 'below-average'

The manual state approximately 68% of scores are 85-115.

I assume 77 is the standard score rather than the raw score? The table in the manual converts the raw score to a standard score.

Ive no idea, it just came home on a report in his school bag for literacy support. Hes well below average so was just checking how much. Thanks

Ask the school. As you can see from this thread you need to know whether it’s the raw score (as the scores in my link is) or standardised score (as tulipsunday’s post includes).

Just to edit my post 85-89 is typically low-average
