I'm going through an asd assessment for my second child. First is almost none verbal so totally different .
The paediatrician has just tried to tell me she can't be autistic as she could talk in complete sentences at 18 months!
I know this is completely untrue but has anyone got a child who talked earlier than normal and went on to get an asd diagnosis.
Daughter is year 5 with lots of issues but clearly autistic to me and I'm disheartened already after this first appointment 😩😡.

God, it’s so frustrating when even so-called professionals come out with nonsense like that.

My daughter was diagnosed aged 9. So different to her speech delayed brother. She spoke early, has always been articulate beyond her years, and socially motivated (but definite social issues which only became apparent at junior school).

Yes I have assessed children who spoke in full sentences, with complex vocabulary army 18months. They went on to get a asd diagnosis.
