Hi everyone,

Just had a chat with my ds's senco. He's 3.6 and this is his first term at nursery. Within the first week I was advised they were applying for 1-1 due to funding due to his needs.
she's advised they're not happy with the 10 weeks funding they've been awarded so going for an ehcp.

I'm going to be filling in the parent view when I get the paper work later. I've heard the term, I know LAs can be a pain in the arse for funding but is there anything I need to do that will help? Or is there anything you wish you knew?

Feels quite daunting and also solidifying that ds is different 😔

IPSEA and SOSSEN are good starting points for information. Don’t believe everything the LA tell you, they will tell you what they want you to know and their version of the law - they often act unlawfully.

Make sure the LA stick to the timescales. They have 6 weeks from the request to let you know whether they will assess or not.

If the LA refuse an EHCP you should appeal, the vast majority of appeals are upheld. Many LAs refuse most requests in the hope parents won’t appeal.

That LA are crap want to save their cash - beyond incompetent it's actually laughable - generally have to take them to tribunal as it's a perfect delay tactic.

The longer it takes them - the less cash and services (OT / Salt) they spend on your child. Classics delay tactic.
