Hello. I posted this on the ND Mumsnetters board, but thought actually it might be better here as this board is about Special Educational Needs.

Mumsnet please feel free to delete one of its not ok to post it twice, I'm not trying to spam I promise!

There's been a bit of a situation brewing in Oxfordshire for a while, primarily affecting ND children (but also many with other SENDs) Parents have had enough, and I wanted to share it with you all in case any of you are having similar difficulties and want to chip in. It's definitely not just an Oxfordshire problem, but I saw this on my local Facebook page. It's being shared widely on SM. There has also been a highly damning report recently published by a voluntary organisation in Oxon that this linked to this that may be of interest. If anyone would like to read I can try to find the link.

The parents (I wasn't there unfortunately) protested on Tuesday at Oxford County Hall. Three of them addressed the full Council in three minute segments to set out exactly what the issues are. Many of the parents are ND themselves, and fighting a losing battle for their children.

Unfortunately after the lunch break, some of the Councillors came back rather 'refreshed' and behaved appallingly - referring to the afternoon as 'more entertaining' than the mornings session had been despite the devastating stories the parents had taken the time to share with them.

If anyone would like to get involved/is having similar issues in the locality, then the action group is called 'OCC SEND Parent Action' on Facebook.

Sadly, this is the situation up and down the country for children and young people with SEND.

DC whose parents know the system, can advocate for their DC and enforce their rights get better support. Parents are often forced to appeal EHCPs (and SENDIST is in a mess at the moment with long waits for hearings) &/or begin judicial review proceedings. It shouldn’t be like this and many are failed.

This is true. It's utterly appalling. They wait for first tier Tribunal in Oxon is over a year at the moment.
