Has anyone any helpful advice on how to prepare before school meeting? What should go in? Asking for DS going into yr 8 with DCD/ASD who has things in place already but school think he’s doing really well and don’t seem to understand masking!

I hope someone who knows more about the system will post soon. In the meantime if you haven’t already read the ALN code and look at SNAP Cymru’s website and try to speak to them.

Thank you @LargeLegoHaul I’ve started to read the ALN guidance and thanks for the reminder about Snap Cymru. I’d forgotten.

He’s high functioning academically so school don’t think he needs more support but on recommendation from paediatrician we’ve pushed so getting one done soon and would just be useful to hear what’s helped others. This board is heavily geared towards the different system in England though so not holding out much hope!

Here are some examples of potential adjustments that aren’t country specific: using a laptop, a time out card, handouts instead of copying notes, being allowed to move classes 5 minutes before the bell, exam access arrangements, being allowed to use ear defenders/noise cancelling headphones, a key worker/mentor, arriving 10 minutes early or late in the morning and leaving 10mins early or late at the end of the day. Do the school have anyone trained to deliver emotional literacy support or counselling? Then there’s more specialised help such as SALT and OT.

Thank you @LargeLegoHaul he’s got some of these in place already as he had a diagnosis of DCD before the ASD but the emotional literacy is a good one as that’s where he’s struggling.
