Hi,
I hope this is the best forum to post this on.
My child is going through the EHCP application, it went to panel and it’s been accept through the first stages.
So now it’s going through to the second t stage.
I had a letter today offering me a ‘Social worker assesment’
Does anyone know what this entails?
Ive asked my child’s teacher of the deaf and she wasn’t sure… I plan to try and call the number tomorrow but wondering if anyone could shed any light here.

This whole process is so long and upsetting 😕

You might find detail on the code of practice

My experience was a call about the impact of my child's SEN on home life, what we had done to support him, our wider support networks and any requests we have of the services. In general, I think they were looking for signs that we were not coping.

It’s not just about whether you are coping or not. By virtue of her disability DD is classed as a child in need. You can find more information on social care assessments in Contact’s booklet here.

Don't worry. At the mention of social care everyone thinks about child protection, but grey serve a lot of other functions.

Your dc is entitled to an assessment to see if she needs any support/services through social care e.g. personal budget, PA to support in community, 'children with disabilities social worker' to coordinate services etc, respite breaks, adjustments or equipment at home....
