Hi
My DD has been given her first draft EHCP and I have to comment on it, and add anything additional i want for her.

I am a little unsure on how to make the most of the EHC Plan and wondered if anyone could give me any advice.?

The main thing DD needs is TA support going into her mainstream college placement, for her education and also as a trusted adult. DD also needs support with her transition from school to college and also help with Friendships and a peer group. There is also a need to support her sensory issues.

On one section of the plan there is Personal budget - please can anyone tell me what this means?

Thank you

Make sure all DD’s needs are in B and that there are corresponding provision in F and outcomes in E.

Anything that educates or trains should be in F, including SALT and OT. This is important as you can then enforce the provision.

Section F should be detailed, specific and quantified. If it is vague and woolly with wording such as “or equivalent” “access to” “would benefit from” DD may not get the necessary support, you cannot enforce it and it isn’t worth the paper it is written on.

A personal budget is the notional amount of money it costs to deliver the provision in the EHCP. If you ask for one the LA must make one unless the provision is funded as part of a larger budget and cannot be disaggregated. A PB can be delivered in different ways - via the LA/college funding directly, via a third party, direct payments or a mixture.

If it is something you are interested in, SOSSEN have a draft checking service that is reasonably priced.

Main thing is there should be no ambiguity over what is required as per the plan. E.g. a 'contact' with OT is meaningless unless it specifies how long etc.

Then there is the judgment to make over whether it is sufficient
