ADHD diagnosis?

My 6yo has mild SEN and seems to be deteriorating in terms of being able to focus/concentrate for long. Then when he's managed it for a while he then ends up running around and round, climbing things, as if he has so much pent-up energy he needs to use up!

His paediatrician has raised the possibility of ADHD in passing and at first I wasn't convinced, but I'm seeing more and more examples now.

Is it generally up to the paediatrician to diagnose or is this something that needs to come from school?

Hello, we had our son diagnosed privately at 5 as the school flagged up that they suspected ADHD and autism. We went private in the end. He's almost 10 now and managing great with support. Have a word with the SENCO at his school.

• meant to add, the reason we went private in the end was because there seemed to be such a long wait via the school.

Thanks - school have been a bit vague and unhelpful in this. Wasn't sure if I need their input or not?
