Dyslexia diagnosis

My 8 year old ds may be dyslexic like me and his biological father. He's struggled with reading and writing since Reception and way behind. What age can they officially diagnose? My friend is an Irlens specialist and also thinks he needs a test for this too, would this mean an EHCP?

A dyslexia diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean an EHCP is needed, in fact the majority won’t have one. However, if you think one is needed you can apply yourself, IPSEA have a model letter, a diagnosis is necessary so you don’t need to wait. At 8 dyslexia can be diagnosed.

Dyslexia can normally be diagnosed after 6, when they can complete the intelligence scales for children WISC 5, which has 2 memory scales that make up working memory.
