My 9yo's writing formation and spelling is really, really bad. Currently waiting for assessments for ADHD. He can read fairly well (about 6 months behind) and grammar is good when spoken / read. He has great general knowledge and a thirst for learning (although this is slowly fading...). School did a screener for dyslexia which came back as unlikely.
Problems include:
Cannot/ does not write on line, wiggles all over with very inconsistent spacing and sizing of words and letters
Cannot spell pretty basic words but is inconsistent in his errors eg take is tak, speak is speke, off is of, walked is walkt, lived is livd, asked is asket, with is whith. Looking at his work I'd say 15% of words are spelled correctly
Reverses letters
Randomly uses capitals
Presses hard on some letters
Forms 90% of letters incorrectly eg starts from the bottom or the top
Please can someone help me work out what's going on, how to help him or tell me who to see... I've spoken to a few dyslexia assessors and they suggest an educational psychologist but it's £2k and a long waiting list!
He is really really resistant to practising anything like letter formation with me at home.
