DS13 has social communication disorder and on very long waiting list for CAMHS. School say he is clearly autistic (and we agree) and have been great and support him despite no ECHP. He has had an online course for his anxiety with CAMHS to help. He is struggling with some aspects of school though is generally above average achiever. The issue we have is that I think he has depression and we are getting increasing school refusal where he just lies in bed and won't communicate, won't say what is wrong, won't do anything to help himself (like drink). School have said just to get him there to speak to them but he won't. I now have a doctor's call booked for tomorrow morning but no idea what they will do. Does anyone have a similar experience who could offer thoughts on where this might go?

I would apply for an EHCNA yourself, IPSEA have a model letter you can use. As part of an EHCNA you can ask for psychiatrist &/or clinical psychologist assessments as well as SALT and OT.

Separately to the EHCNA, if DS cannot attend school the LA should provide alternative education. This should begin when it becomes clear he will miss 15 days.

Thank you - that is helpful. Will look that up.
