Hello I’m new on here.
I would be great full for any advise please,
My son is 12 years old he had ADHD he got diagnosed at 8 years old, in September he started mainstream high school. His behaviour has got worse and worse everyday in the first 2 weeks of school he had detentions most nights after school he’s been in isolation many time longest stint being 14 days he went back into class after that and lasted till period 4 then he got put into seclusion for 5 days which is where he has to be in school at 7:30am and home for 13:20pm, after the 5 days he went back to class and lasted half a day then got put back in seclusion for 10 days.
After this they moved him to a class of 10 my son didn’t like this as his friends where making fun of him for being in this class so my son played up again then got suspended for 2 days. They are now saying the want him to go to a pru school for 12 Weeks I applied for a education plan to be put into place but the school refused it as they said they can put more in place for him ie the pru school I’m so concerned that this isn’t the right step for my son can somebody please give me some advise

You can apply for an EHCNA yourself. IPSEA have a model letter you can use.

Are the school providing any SEN support? Is DS on medication? Was the FTE a formal one with formal paperwork or an informal, illegal one?

Hi I did apply for it myself the council said they school said they have more to put in place hence why they declined putting it in place.

They have got sen involved but not much has happened tbh they seem not to want him in the school tbh

Yeah he's on medication he's been on it since he was diagnosed

Did you appeal the refusal? (Was it a refusal to assess or refusal to issue?)

If you didn’t appeal to SENDIST and you are still within the appeal timescale do appeal. The majority of appeals are upheld. If you are outside of the appeal window reapply - immediately if it was a refusal to assess or as soon as 6 months is up from the EHCNA if it was a refusal to issue (this is because if there has been an EHCNA in the last 6 months there’s no right of appeal).

Do you think DS’s medication needs adjusting?

Sarahmoore90 · 14/02/2022 13:33

It's just been adjusted he's just been put on 45mg xaggitin I've never heard of this drug he's been put on it because he was quiet aggressive on the others I'm waiting for his doctor to call me about this one as it's not touching him it's like he's not had any medication when he has if u get what I mean.

I've got a meeting with the school at 2.20 today a lady from the council is coming too as they haven't really put anything in place which the school said they would so I'm in the middle of appealing it.

It's so stressful Confused

It doesn’t sound like you have submitted an appeal to SENDIST yet? Don’t bother with mediation, just get the certificate and submit an appeal to SENDIST. LAs use mediation as a delaying tactic and if they are going to concede they will do so anyway.

Sarahmoore90 · 14/02/2022 17:22

I have appealed it I check while in the meeting it goes back to the panel 3rd March fingers crossed they agree to asses him this time, so they want him to go to a pru school for 12 weeks after Easter to see how he gets on there I've not got a good feeling about it do you no if you can refuse this if so how and what will happen Smile

It sounds more like you have informally appealed to the LA to reconsider rather than formally appealing to SENDIST. When you appealed did you complete this form and send it to SENDIST?

Schools have the power to arrange education off site for DC to improve their behaviour, here is the guidance. If you refuse the PRU intervention the school may reach a point where they permanently exclude or look at a managed move.
