Hi all, my DS is 5. can anybody recommend some activity based clubs they found were good for there SEN child. He’s in a weekly football class but he struggles with becoming overwhelmed at some point during the class each week and the coaches who are just young adults themselves don’t feel know how to respond to him. I want to send him to swimming lessons but the reality is I don’t think he would cope in a group environment nor would the teacher know or be able to assist during the vlass. Basically any advice or recommendations on what we can do would be great. Thank you 😬

Have you looked for an ability counts football session? They are aimed specifically at those with a variety of disability.

It is going to depend on the need, and also it will depend on the individual group.

So, Beaver Scouts start at 6. Some Leaders are fantastic with children with additional needs, but others have less experience / are less good at making adjustments. The same is going to apply for every swimming teacher / football coach / dance teacher / art club.

Many areas seem to be wildly different in what is on offer for SEN children. Swimming would be my suggestion - you could look specifically for lessons with teachers in the pool itself, 1:1 lessons, although these may have extra costs. Ask your local pool what they offer for children with additional needs.
