EHCP for attachment disorder

Hi all I am posting for a friend who's child is really struggling in school with his behaviour. He was diagnosed with attachment disorder 2 years ago. Recently had some 1-2-1 support that really helped him but school say they cannot maintain this support without a EHCP plan. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Your friend should apply for an EHCNA. It doesn't matter what diagnosis her DS has or doesn't have because EHCPs are needs based, not diagnosis led.

If more funding is needed in order to provide a higher level of support whilst going through the EHCNA process the school can apply for high needs top up funding.

@overworkedrobot thank you so much for responding, so it's school who apply for the EHCP then?

Either the school or parents can apply for an EHCNA. I recommend the parents apply so you know it's done ASAP. IPSEA have a model letter you can use.

Only the school can apply for high needs top up funding if they need additional funding to provide greater support whilst going through the EHCP application process.

Also, if they are adopted (not sure from messages) then the post adoption support team could access adoption support funding for therapy.
