Is Selective Mutism a communication and interaction disorder for the purposes of an EHCP?

Selectively mute and therefore socially and emotionally behind peers.

DS is vulnerable and I don’t think will manage well in MS. Is SM , along with ASD enough to request specialist provision?

SM is an anxiety disorder so should be considered a SEMH need, although obviously it affects communication and interaction too. ASD is a communication and interaction need.

Whether a child with SM and ASD needs a special school depends on the needs of the specific child.

Does DS have an EHCP? It is very unlikely you will get a special school place without an EHCP.
