Hi there

My daughter will be starting secondary school in September and I have to say I’m finding it very difficult to know the right thing to do ??she has a place at a local secondary which is a really good school but the last time she was in mainstream education she ended up with bad anxiety.
She has been at a specialist school for dyslexia
( so in a small class) where she is confident and happy. I’m looking for a small nurturing school to help support her as she is dyslexic and has ADHD but she can probably cope at a school that just has some learning support in place and small classes rather than a completely specialist school.I live close to Reading and have looked at Leighton Park but I would consider a school further away and had also considered Sibford and Breedon. If anyone has any feedback on any of the schools in relation to children who need to Sen support, but also want a range of subjects and some learning support.I would be so appreciative as it’s so hard to know the right thing to do?? Thanks

We have a child at Sibford school (Secondary) We visited many schools and Sibford stood out as friendly and inclusive. My child settled from day one, has made friends, grown in confidence and tried lots of new exciting things.
The support for children with SEN is incredible. They are challenged and supported in a gentle way to fulfil their potential.
This is not a one size fits all school. Both outgoing and reserved children feel at home here. Classes are small and the school is very good at spotting each child`s talents and interests. Every single teacher knows the name of every child.
Children are treated as individuals, if their strength is academic they will be motivated/ enabled to do well academically. Same goes if a child is creative, musical or sporty.
One big strength of the school is creative art (the art and music departments are both impressive)
Our child feels very safe at Sibford. We are impressed by the level of pastoral care and honestly have not heard about any bullying.
I know different schools suit different children but we are happy to have found Sibford.

Good luck with your search for what is right for your daughter.
