Adhd?

Where is the line between high energy 4yos and ADHD? I’ve been wondering about my daughter for the last 6m but also a bit reluctant to raise it with school because well she’s 4 and lots of them display some of the characteristics so hard to get a sense of what is normal versus something to worry about.

Things that make me wonder are she is :

  • very active- needs to do a lot of exercise on she’s a nightmare
  • talks non stop and interrupts.
  • doesn’t listen
  • very forgetful with her things
  • plays in a very creative but messy way
  • can’t stay still
  • has had some sound aversions in the past eg totally freaked out by hand dryers.
  • has quite frequent meltdowns and gets quite overwhelmed and angry.
  • generates ideas at 100mph. In a playground she won’t just stay at the swings, she’ll dart around, have 2-3 role play games on the go and just be quite frenetic.
  • she’s often harder work and more full on than my nearly 2yo.

All of the above could be totally normal but there is something at the back of my mind that thinks there could be something more. She’s doing very well at school, is clever and well behaved but at home she is quite hard work.

I found the ADDitude.com very useful.

It sounds like she could be. Coping at school but letting it all go when at home.

Sounds like it's a possibility. My DD was very similar and unfortunately things got a lot worse once puberty was on the horizon.

Are you thinking of getting her assessed?

I found "How to ADHD" useful.
