8yo assessment

Hi there - I'm not sure where to start on my 8 yo son (year 4) assessed both academically and socially.

Over this lockdown and last one, I really noticed how bad my son's spelling is and his ability to form written sentences that make sense. At school when they having spelling tests, he studies them and gets them pretty much all correct so I thought his spelling was okay but when he has to spell in stories/sentences it's so bad, eg writes bowt for bought. Reading out loud also has its moments, he doesn't spell words out eg word is government but he will say it's gorgeous a out five times before spelling out. And when trying to explain or answer questions in writing his thought process and what goes down on paper doesn't make sense. It's really hickle de pickled (sorry not idea how to spell that!) On top of this, he doesn't get invited over to friends houses (pre lockdown) unless it's retuning the invite and can be overly babyish with his 2yo sister.

Does this type of assessment exist? What should I look for in an assessor and what questions I should ask. At the half term parent/teacher she said he was doing really well but I want a second opinion. Not to go to his teacher and show them out of spite but to ensure that we are concentrating on correct areas or if there is a bigger issue that needs addressing.

I hope this makes sense and someone can point me in the fright direction.
