DS3 nursery have raised concerns with his speech and language and various other behaviours, from my looking online it sounds a lot like ASD. I have no experience of ASD and whilst I can recognise some of the behaviours they talk about, it also sounds nothing like my child they’re describing. My HV has referred to community Paeds with a year waiting list, school have referred to SLT and Ed Psych, also up to a year wait. This is all great and I want him to have all the support everyone has to offer but I don’t even know what I’m looking at here. Would a private psychologist be able to give me an idea of what’s going on? Or do I just have to wait and see?

I would arrange a (probably zoom) meeting with the Nursery SENCo and say you really appreciated that they have picked this up and one all the referrals, but, as it isn't anything you know that much about, ask them what they are putting in place, and what you can also put in place at home, to give him consistency, and help to support him.

Without knowing your ds, it could be they suggest using some Makaton signing to support communication, or symbols, or visual cues such as photographs. Or it might be there are sensory issues or any number of different things.
