ASD 12 year old boy

he`s in year 7 and he is struggling! the actual content of class is fine (average ability). Its the noise, teasing.....general hub bub around him!! this week he has a "time out" card so he can go to the SEN / quiet room when he needs it and is trialling some ear defenders to take away the class noise.

Its not working. He isnt recognising when to use these tools, so reaches crying/ crisis point and ends up in tears/ distresses and spending time twiddling his thumbs in SEN room . So hes not getting full lessons......probably puts off the "normal" kids, takes up teachers time in sorting him out.....

I`m thinking of using online school. Anyone elses child with high functioning ASD using this? thinking interhigh, my online school?

And just for the icing on the cake he has this month started wanting to die when he gets worked up! (has a CAMHS appointment coming up). DH is a teacher at his school so the teachers etc are running to him to help sort ds out too. He`s knackered!!

Oh, your poor DS. This doesn't sound fun for any of you.

Not had any experience of online school at all but just wanted to send you all and maybe for you and DH too, and see if we could bump this for anyone passing.

well dh had a look at interhigh website yesterday. He as a teacher/ parent likes the idea. Myonline schooling does a free try out on a class , so putting ds on that (hell be off school that day for his first camhs appointmnet anyway). they use the same method of teaching, so itll be a good test. ds from today will go to the SEN room instead of form time (a major noisy/ trigger). tonight is open evening for my online school and on the 10th july for interhigh, so signed up for that!

If the situation doesnt improve for ds for rest of this term (and the school ARE TRYING bless em) then dh has agree that if the trial class goes well and we like what what we see on open evening ds will be enrolled . interhigh do a 1/2 term trial and thatll really see if it suits. talked to ds about school and home ed. obviously he likes the idea too.
