Meeting Senco of potential new school - what to ask?

We are looking at moving our (primary aged) DS to a new school due to a house move - he is severely dyslexic without an EHCP.

We are meeting the SENCO of the potential new school next week. I wondered if anyone had any advice/tips for what to ask about? I have made a list of his current provision and will ask what they generally provide for pupils like him, but is there anything else I should ask?

You could ask:

  1. What sort of assistance will DC get (in terms of his dyslexia) Ie. a laptop with assistive software (like Claro Read) for example
  1. Learning assistance (ie. teaching assistant to work with him during lessons)
  1. What emotional support will DC get. Ie. Time with a counsellor / educational psychologist and / or reviews with DC and his teachers

You could also ask:

  1. What sort of feedback will you get, from the school, about DC's lessons, ie. "He hit another student", or "he was feeling quite overwhelmed" etc
  1. What (if anything) can the school do, when DC struggles in lessons, ie. one to one (away from main stream class) etc

Hope this helps a bit. :)
