I posted a while ago about forms being sent off to start the process. Today we did the assessment and we've been referred to paediatrics. On the social and emotional questionnaire she said the normal range is 75 or lower and he scored a lot above this. She said it's nothing to worry about and was really lovely, but I'm not sure what we're looking at or what will happen now?
She said the waiting list is long. Just a bit overwhelmed with what will happen next?

My Ds is 14 and was referred to paediatrics last July for an ASD assessment. Within a couple of weeks we received a big envelope full of questionnaires to fill in and send back. Shortly after that he got an appointment for December. We saw the consultant who decided to refer him on for a multidisciplinary ASD assessment. She also referred Ds to the OT for his fine motor skills. He has been seeing the OT since February but he is still waiting for his speech and language assessment. I have been told it is at least another 8 weeks to wait which will take us to July and the end of the school year. Not great as he starts year 11 in September. So that will be a year from referral just to get to the assessment. His school wrote to the consultant last week to try and speed things up but I don't think it will help.

I also took with me a detailed history of Ds's childhood as he is slightly older. I printed it out and gave it to the consultant. She said she would read it after the appointment. I think you probably will have a long wait which is frustrating especially if your child is struggling. Not a lot we can do really though just wish I had Ds assessed when he was younger. The process does differ all over the country so It maybe different for your child.
