First appointment with CAMHS

My ds (10) has his first ever appointment with CAMHS very soon. This is to look at the possibility of pursuing a diagnosis of asd. Can anyone tell me what they're likely to want to know and if I should bring along a bank of written evidence?

My Ds is being assessed for autism through paediatrics not camhs but it must be similar. We were sent questionnaires through the post to send back before the appointment. I also decided to print out a history of Ds and his behaviours that I thought may indicate ASD. The consultant did not look at that during the consultation but she did say she would read it afterwards. It maybe worth you making some notes to take if you feel you may have some useful information. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply! The letter I've been sent is very simple and says we're meeting consultant psychiatrist and mental health nurse. I'm assuming where we are that this is the normal initial route for asd rather than through paediatrics. I hope it leads to some help! I hope your dc's assessment turns out to be helpful.

Thanks, they will probably ask you for a detailed history. The consultant went right back to when Ds was born. So it's always good to go armed with as much info as possible. Hopefully they will be happy to go down the diagnosis route for your Ds.
