Is your child like this?

DS aged 3 has the intellectual skills, communication and understanding of a 5-6 year old, yet has delayed social and emotional skills by 12-18 months. So is basically like a two year old. I'm struggling to understand this and what affect this will have on him. How do I help him? How is it possible to be so far ahead in communication and intellect and so behind emotionally?

Does he go to play group or Nursery ?

I have 2 special needs children. They are currently my youngest two in the family.
Do you send him to nursery or not? Judging from what I’ve just read I doubt that he has cognitive disabilities. It is possible for a disabled child to have no cognitive disabilities. Just because he has issues in one area does not mean that overall development will be affected.
The whole disability spectrum is such a wide ranging one. Both kids are definitely delayed physically but they make up for that in other areas of development. I couldn’t be more proud of them.

He does go to nursery and also has a disability (visual) as well as hypermobility.

Okay, so - how severe is his visual impairment?
What have the Nursery said about his social and emotional difficulties?
Do the Visual support advisors feel there is a link between the VI and the social and emotional difficulties? As it seems likely there is a link.

Are the staff at Nursery putting any plans in place to support him?
