Funding

Hi - I’ve just discovered that the standard £10K funding that SEN pupils are entitled to in Surrey mainstream schools, does not appear to apply in ‘other independent special’ schools.

Unfortunately our caseworker initially thought it did, so a potential secondary school placing for our son pretty much worked out cost neutral between our 1st choice (other independent special) and our 2nd (specialist centre at mainstream school).

Has anyone ever challenged this, or have any further info?

If you’re looking to get a placement named (and funded) on EHCP you need to prove that your school of choice is able to meet needs where the other one can’t. Can be for a whole host of reasons (such as class sizes, social reasons, specialism etc) obviously cost does come in, but it’s all about meeting needs
