My DS is 3 and been at preschool since he was 2 years old. He is such a loving and caring boy, I have been having the discussion of concerns with playgroup since the end of last year about some anxious traits he has and his lack of interaction with other children. They wanted to see about referring him for assessments but I wanted to try a few things first, I have since signed him up to football and swimming hoping it will help him to be in different social settings but if I'm honest it has made me notice even more his struggles. He likes to play alone and when approached by other children or football coach for example he throws himself about on the floor to avoid contact and makes silly noises, he then struggled to join back in with whatever he was doing. When I take him out anywhere or go to visit people he will ask me a ton of questions and I answer all as much as possible(as this usually has a better outcome on mood) I'll show him photos etc or where or who were seeing. At school they have noticed particularly that with routine he seems to struggle if it isn't the same each day, if something changes he has a lot of questions and if the time isn't taken to talk to him and explain it has a negative effect on his behaviour and he becomes quite upset. The concern is at school he won't be able to have the close 121 support he has at pre school with his key worker. There's also concerns with that he doesn't like to play or join in with the children playing at pre school he will always go to small world play (figures) and play alone or with 1 other student in particular, and they struggle to get him to engage with other subjects.
Pre school have refered him to IDS (integrated disability service) for an assesment I'm waiting for forms to be sorted and then need to wait for them to come back to us, but I wondered if anyone has any ideas on what I could be facing (if anything) and if anyone has had similar experiences? I am a single mum and don't really have any one to talk to so my minds all over the place, I just want him to be happy and supported especially when he starts school in September.

Tia
