Can I ask if any of you are experts in dyslexia, do you know if it can cause issues with understanding lanaguage and comprehension skills? Ds is dyslexic but he also has terrible problems following conversations, understanding text, following instructions. Basically all the comprehension skills for verbal and written work. Is this a dyslexia trait? The school have spoken to me about ASD so I'm just wondering if I should look into that. He doesn't display any other signs of ASD though.

Yes these things can be an issue with dyslexia or dyspraxia.

FYI - specialist teacher with Masters in Specific Learning Difficulties. Dyslexia/ dyspraxia can also co-exist with any number of other conditions.

Thank you. Could you give me some idea of what other conditions?

Autistic Spectrum Condition, ADHD, Dyscalculia. could also be a language based disorder. Has he been assessed by a Speech and Language therapist? If you can do this privately it can be done quickly and may suggest that there could be ASD and warrants further investigation.

Thank you. He has dyscalulia and is working about 3-4 years behind. He hasn't had a SALT assessment so it looks like that's where I need to start.
