Good morning Ladies!

Just wondered if anyone has experienced the transition from mainstream to special school?

My son is 7 and is at a mainstream school at the moment, he has been struggling for a while and has been excluded a couple of times to! We made the decision to look at special schools and we have just had it confirmed my son has got a place at the special school for September 2019.... my question is how did your child cope moving schools? Was it fairly plain sailing? Also, my son will get a taxi/mini bus to special school but at the moment I drive him....anyone had any experience of this situation?

Would really appreciate your replies!xx

My daughter went from a special school to mainstream which was a nightmare, they couldn't meet her needs and now we can't get her the specialist provision back. The support you will get for your child in a specialist provision will hopefully make such a difference to him. Good luck to you both.

Slightly different as my son ended up having a year out of education when secondary placement broke down three days into year 7. But. Sen school has helped reduce the sensory and anxiety issues allowing him to attend full time. After so long out of school it took months for him to reliably attend but it's been amazing now he's settled. He had a good few transition days...starting with one hour only and building it up. He was too anxious, and the proposed taxi route ridiculous (an hour for a three mile journey due to him lining in the road the escort lived in) so I ended up transporting him myself till this term.
