So our school SenCo is leaving. No word on a replacement yet. Would the head be able to tell me if my son’s referral has been sent?

Hi,
I'm my experience the Head Teacher didn't know nothing regarding my sons referrals. However I would try asking him/her and if they fob you off I'd ring you local councils educational department and ask them even if you mentioned to the head you were going to do this I'm sure they would quickly find the information your looking for. No school wants the educational department onto them. Smile

Thank you. My email has been ignored so will catch them in person.

Is this a referral for an EHC Plan? If so it might be safest to send off your own. Information about how to do it is on the IPSEA and SOS SEN websites.

I don’t even know... it was meant to be a referral for OT to see what was needed and then possibly a pead referral in September except nothing has happened since our first meeting. I am beyond angry and have a meeting with the ‘temporary’ SenCo on Thursday. However the heads email stating I assumed how far along we were has got my back up.. I assumed because I trusted what I was told... there is no trust there now and I will be chasing at all stages

It might be worth trying a back-up strategy of asking your GP to make both referrals also.

Gizlotsmum · 12/06/2018 18:08

I will see how Thursday goes and see what our options are. Would a gp refer on my request or would they need to observe my son?

Right well had the meeting and not sure school will be taking it anywhere so may need to do this off our own backs or go private :( I feel so lost at the moment and almost as if they think we are looking for a diagnosis just for the hell of it

In our area, schools can't refer to OT. Referrals are sent via the GP. What health authority do you come under? Happy to look it up for you.

Gizlotsmum · 01/07/2018 15:37

Thank you. It’s complicated we live and our dr is Lincolnshire but the school is Cambridgeshire. School sent OT referral apparently to Cambridgeshire but that was 2 weeks ago and we were promised a response in 2 weeks

So Cambridgeshire have refused it as wrong local authority 🤬

And Lincolnshire need a GP referral!
