Hello! Hoping for some advice from parents who are more experienced than myself! My DS has a DX of Asd with Aspergers tendencies and comorbid features of adhd. He is high functioning but behind in writing (found this out on Wednesday) because they can’t get him to complete work he doesn’t want to do. He can’t cope with loud noise or silence and wears ear defenders more and more. He has has meltdowns which vary in degree and frequency and it has been this was since reception (he is in he 4). Yesterday, he has had a meltdown and tipped over the interactive whiteboard (which is on castors), narrowly missing another child. He has been excluded for three day. He has just started the process of a pastoral support plan, a re-referral to the specialist teaching team (3rd time - accepted each time..but they are useless in my opinion), he has play therapy, a table at the back of the class and an individual behaviour plan. I’m just at the end of my teacher. I just don’t think the support is cutting it but I’m not sure what it is he needs or what will help. I’m at the point where I feel like removing him completely as he is now saying he hates himself. He’s 9 :( any advice on how to approach the school during the reitergration and pap meetings?

Does he have an EHCP ?

Sorry I had no notification of your reply - no he doesn't. He is now on a part time time table so is only at school 1.5 hrs a day :(

School should be applying for an EHCP. His needs aren’t being met on their current level of support. He may need more 1:1 so work can be adapted to suit his interests, so someone can be there reassuring him, and so he can be taken out of the class for frequent sensory breaks. Training for staff on ASD could also help and be written into an EHCP. Hope that helps a little! Good luck!

Hi. Yes that does. Thanks so much. Felt like I was being over the top thinking EHCP but I don't see what else can be done from here. Thank you!

Yes you definitely need an EHCP. Your child is entitled to full time education just like any other child. A part time timetable whether or not you agreed to it, is illegal exclusion.

Was the 3 day exclusion an official one ?

Yes it was official. He pushed over a white board. I have a meeting with school on Monday so will see what they say. Spoke to gp today who were talking about referring him back into community peads and camh. Have an app on 31st of July but taking it with a pinch of salt. It's a massive battle all the way it seems.
