Confidentiality

If a young adult at college (19 yo) has an EHCP, are they protected by the confidentiality act because they are over 18, or would the parents still be informed of any issues with the young adult at the college?

Our son has an EHCP and is 23. The college keep us fully informed about everything, but this is a specialist college.
