my youngest daughter has expressive and receptive language disorder, she has had continual speech and language input since she was 3 and now sits within "normal realms" for a 6 year old. However she is hugely behind on her reading and writing ability compared to her class mates and having moved into year 2 is struggling with abstract questions and other areas and I can see it is starting to affect her. She is in a mainstream private school where we live and they have been incredible with their SEN support and they do not feel she should repeat year 1 but continue to focus on developing new concepts. However there is a possibility that we maybe relocating to the UK London/Hampshire are most likely areas and I wanted to know if anyone knew of creative/alternative schools with SEN support where she can continue to develop but at her own pace and without feeling "stupid" as she is now saying.
We know of Shapwick in Somerset and someone has talked to us about Bredon in Gloucestershire but I wonder if a more nordic type approach would be better. We had considered home schooling her until the age of 7 but felt she needed the social side and structure that she gets from her present school.
Huge thanks for any advice or possibilities anyone has to offer.
