Confused about whether my dd has SEN

My daughter has been though primary school to year 4 without any problems.
After a couple of months in year 5 the school contacted me, concerned about her progress and suggesting an ed psych assessment. I was so confused about why any such issues had suddenly arisen, and why the school had only spotted there might be a concern, after 4 years there already. Wouldn't this have come out if there was a problem, much earlier in the school? Difficult to know before the assessment, but struggling to work out whether she would improve with an excellent teacher, or whether we need to go down the SEN specialist tutor route. Any advice appreciated.

I don't think you can go any further until you know a great deal more about why the school is suggesting an ed psych assessment. Make an appointment with her class teacher and whoever contacted you and get details.
What are the issues with her progress? Where is she at the moment? What do they propose to do with the assessment? How long will it take before the assessment? In some authorities it can take months before an ed psych sees her. How have they been monitoring her progress? What have they been trying to encourage progress?
I am a specialist sen tutor but I would advise not jumping into this option at least until you have a lot more information. pm me if you want.
