AUDITORY SEQUENTIAL MEMORY

I've posted this in SN...but realised SEN was probably more relevent

DS3 has been attending a 10 week programme at a specialist unit 2 days a week for the past 8 weeks...2 weeks left

does not follow national curriculum...but Emotional Literacy

Children there for lots of reasons...some like ds3 who are showing ASD/ADHD etc behaviours- and some who are described as vulnerable/withdrawn- and can include dissruptive behaiour. sometimes used as a pre-exclusion measure.

there is 1 teacher, 6 children and 3 key workers- 1 per 2 children- not all adults are in the class at once- they 'hide' in an observation room with a 2 way mirror- initially they were in class alot- then as the weeks went on they spend more time 'watching' and 'appearing' as needed to assist teacher.

we attended a review b4 christmas- and they 'set up' a task for him that he struggles with- that being 'working in a pair to write a story' and sure enough all his difficulties showed very nicely!

today they gave me a reprt of this review- and it mentioned difficulty with his
AUDITORY SEQUENTIAL MEMORY...and i have a basic understanding ... but can anyone expand?

they've been using social stories,picture jigs and a laminated velcro'd 'things i need list',and a visual timetable to help him organise himself....
they are saying he does not choose to be naughty- and that he genuinely is exhausted by 12 noon with all the effort he has to put in to sit still...concentrate etc.

now as you know i have 1 dx'd with AS and ADHD... 1 with AS...and i believe ds3 is like the one with ADHD/AS.....but they are not commenting on his social skills as such- other than he finds woring in a group hard,hates not being the leader/chooser...so though i still am sure he has AS...they are not overly concerned....

so....what i'd like is you all to tell me what is AUDITORY SEQUENTIAL MEMORY a feature of????

Before christmas it was agreed by his school that they would support my request for the paed to assess him for 'something'...but i'd like a bit more background on this auditory stuff...so that i don't get fobbed off
