Dyslexia

both DD1 and DD2 have been assessed as having dyslexia. DD2 was the 1st after many years of battling with the school has now got a statement. But this is not worth the paper it is written on because LEA have decided that they know best and have refused to increase my daughter's hours of support.

My DD1 was only assessed as being dyslexic after leaving a high school who the LEA hold in great regard as being the shining example of the best dyslexic support school in Cardiff!!! Yet my DD1 has gone through that school with dyslexia and no one has picked it up????

What I posted for really was to have a rant and to see if others have had such a hard time getting a diagnosis and getting support for their child even after statementing???

oh god statements for dyslexia are a nightmare.i know of quite a few kids at our school who have it and a statment and get none or minimal support.

apparently its all down to funding, even though the schools get paid for statmented kids, think the money goes elsewhere .

sorry not much help, hope someone can advise you further

Not much comfort from our experiences, I'm afraid.

We got so sick and tired of battling the LEA to try and get appropriate support for our two dyslexic children that we are now home educating them.

We never got either of them approved for statementing though, so well done for that - and good luck in the battle!

What is it with schools, my daughter has started secondary school in September and i start my battle over again, it is so tiring but i refuse to let them win.
