My dd has just been diagnosed with this and with SLD (Dyslexia). Just wondered what others experiences of this are and how they helped or how their children were helped. We are awaiting a full speech and language assessment but it may be some time ( she was diagnosed with this by a specialist psychologist)

Hi Laura0806,

Specific language impairment (SLI) and Dyslexia has a common area of overlap Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).
During the Medical Research Council's APD research progrma 2004 - 2009 there was a heated discussion as to whether APD was the clinical / medical cause of SLI. And the 2013 International Dyslexia Symposium identified that what linguists term phonological processing deficits are clinically auditory processing disorders (APD).

You might like to investigate APD as the medical issue and the cause opf these educational problems. There is the CiteULike Audiology and Auditory Processing Disorder research paper sharing library which may provide more detailed information
