We have a 12 yr old daughter we were informed last June that she is Dyslexic by an independent private test we had done. This test holds no weight in the secondary school she is in,so her S.E.N.C.O teacher told us last September that within yr 7 she would be tested by the education authority. This didn't happen she has just entered yr 8 and i have been told yesterday, that there is not a obligation to diagnose in schools any more ,it has been cut out completely and if i want a diagnosis i have to pay for it privately. She also said very matter of factly " oh and yes your daughter has Moderate Learning Difficulties" we are beside ourself's , with worry and confusion i don't know where to start or what to do now............. Can any body help PLEASE!!!!!!!

As a Senco in a secondary school, I can tell you that MLD no longer exists under the new code of practice (your dad's school Senco should know this!) and therefore students who were/are 'MLD' are not necessarily going to remain on a school's SEN register.

We do dyslexia testing within school as some of our staff have done a qualification. If I were you I wouldn't pay for another test, but I would push for the one you've had done to be accepted by the school.
