Advice re ABA Home Program/Consultants/case managers Pls!! im desperate

my son was diagnosed last year with autism. I found out about ABA and started a program with a case manager albeit without much research. i think i was just too overwhelmed and panicky about not doing something fast and went in with what came my way! now i have come to a point where i am not so sure about how things are progressing!! i need some advice on what a good home program should look like!! what should be my starting point? what components are essential?? i know its individual but there must be some basics. also my data folder has been described as appaling by a new therapist! how to have my son assessed as so far i dont think we have had a proper assessment!! not sure if that was my fault as i was trying to preserve every penny or just not been informed correctly!! i am literally going mad with worry and stress as i am paying a lot of money for something that might not be right for my son or isnt working!! i feel like its all my fault but i have no one to turn to!!! please help!!

Does your consultant/case manager think the data folder(s) is/are appalling? Is this person BACB certified?

Don't panic. Anything that you may find you're not happy with in the programme can be easily fixed. You have already done the hard bit of getting started imo.

Also ask on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs i.e. the special needs board on here as opposed to the SEN board.

There are quite a few ABA-ers on there and huge numbers of incredibly knowledgeable and brilliant people.

Thank u so much. I am in north west london. The case manager says data is fine but new therapist joined and said no it's quite bad compared to other kids she works with!

Ask your tutor to list the issues she has with the folder.

Then go through them with the case manager.

Say that you have been looking at the folder and have these queries, rather than saying that it comes from the new tutor.

If the case manager is dismissive or unconvincing - or if you simply feel unsure and unsupported - then think about changing provider. There are lots around, particularly in London.
