Really struggling my son is 14 in year 10 he is in the process of finding our if he has adhd.the problem i have is that school just cant understand him and they keep putting him in pdc .and he has his gcse next year.we are under camhs .but the process is slow and it will be feb before he gets seen for the next assessment.in which i believe school will kick him out.my son does nt want to leave and does try but i think school have given him a label as a bad lad and they just want a quiet life.we either remove him and send him to a adhd school but no prognosise as yet .or try another mainstream .i feel im letting him down .advice most welcome thankyou xxx

Hi dwendy

Can't give you specific advice as our adhd DS is much younger but wanted to point you in the direction of the charity ADDISS. The CEO is Andrea Bilbow and incredibly helpful and often on the end of their helpline. They are strong advocates of children with ADHD and fight hard to keep them in school. Please, please call them and ask for their advice.

Ignore anyone who says schools don't label kids, they do. Devastatingly. We have had 4 years of our son labelled as trouble, immature, naughty etc. It has crushed him. He was diagnosed last year but it is taking a really long time to change people's opinions. He is only 8 Hmm

Keep fighting. You are your son's strongest and only truest (is that even a word?) advocate. Where are you with the assessment? Are you in contact with the school SENCO? What is your relationship with the school like?

Also please ask for this to be moved to the special needs board. It has far more traffic than this one and has very experienced posters in SEN. report your post and ask for it to be moved.
