Child with DCD. Extremely frustrated with the system.

I have a 9 yr old child with DCD, who is incidentally the youngest in the year. He is undergoing assessment for ADHD with the CAHMS team at the moment too. Year in, year out I am told by his class teacher, Ed Pysch and OT that the only way he is going to progress in the way he should is if he has 1-2-1. The SENCO has dismissed this as not going to happen as he is 'too bright' for funding.

Is it worth me trying to apply for a Statment for him? Is is likely? I am at my wits end. Every parents evening (we had one tonight) I am in tears seeing the disparity between what he is capable of and what he can get down on paper... Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

I have also applied for DLA and been rejected. I have appealed. I am hoping if we can get anything it can go towards private tuition as well as his very expensive swimming lessons!

Thanks in advance.

Hi green it is really quiet on this board, you might be better to ask this question on the special needs children board.

In the meantime yes you can apply for Statutory Assessment yourself lots of people on the sn children board have done this, I have just started the proccess myself too.

Maybe see you over there? Smile
