What happens at a 1 year Statement Review?

Just that really - my sons statement is up for review next month, but no one seems able to tell me what will happen.

His OT, SLT, pre school key worker and the inclusion officer for the LEA will be in attendance, as well as myself - do they discuss options and then tell the LEA whether to extend it for another year or not?

His key worker, despite being the SENCO, is not very good when it comes to the "admin" side of things.

Any help is appreciated!

Between ds2 and ds3 I have had over 20 reviews.

Basically all the people involved with your dc sit around the table and one by one tell the meeting how your dc is progressing, any particular difficulties they are having etc

The format is usually taking the objectives from the statement and seeing where your dc is now

My LA have a form with set questions that need asking such as does the statement need amending, is the statement still valid, what is being done to support X towards independence, how does the school support x etc etc

Ds has his next month. The last few times have been as said below, making sure what they are doing is still relevant for him, checking he and they are meeting objectives (I think), checking progress etc. It's not a question of extending it. Once you have a statement, they can't randomly take it away (which is why they usually fight so hard not go give them out in the first place, IME!) , and you have to agree to any changes.To be honest, nobody from the LEA has ever come along to DS's reviews.

Thanks both. I'm concerned as he has come on leaps and bounds with the extra help provided in the statement and worried that they'll say he doesn't need any more help - which he does, he is still behind where he should be, he's just so much further forward than he was!

My son's having his 2nd annual review tomorrow morning but I'm assured by the school SENCO that whereas there are many positives and great achievements made, he still warrants the Statement and his 1:1 help. It's merely a formality as such. Can I suggest you have a quiet word with your child's SENCO and gauge their opinion on where he stands, to put your mind at rest. Good luck
