I am a teacher working with pupils with additional support needs. I am currently using several reading schemes to support kids with low literacy levels and am looking at buying some new resources as the ones we use feel dated. Does anyone have any experience of effective schemes that feel suitable for older pupils but are still pitched at lower ability? I would like a spelling/ phonics programme. I'd also like a good reading book scheme (currently have Rapid Readers, Wellington Sq, Barrington Stoke and the Dark man series). I feel like some of these are patronising for secondary pupils as they are commonly used in primary schools.
I am also using a scheme called Phonics code cracker and cracker spell. They are good but very young. I would be so grateful for anyone reading this to give me some names of schemes that they think are effective. TIA.
