DC dropped levels - Not warned!

My DS has made no progress this year and in fact had dropped grades. I think he has made a lot of progress but he has come out with lower grades on this years report than last year. He will now be going into yr 5 on a level 2b/3c.

I am furious that I was never called in to school to discuss this and when I went to parents' evening last time his teacher said that he was only one sub-level lower than what he should have been and was making steady progress. His report said he had great ability but made no effort. I don't believe this. He does his homework with no problem and he had a tutor this year who was very happy with his progress and his attitude to learning. He learns well at home so I am furious with the school for not discussing this with me.

I think he might be dyslexic too and it seems so typical to be branded as "lazy". Dyslexia runs in our family and his literacy is worse than his maths. I have written to the head and asked for him to be assessed but I suspect I will get a negative reply, based on previous experience with another dyslexic son.

What should I do?
